When it comes to supercar rivalries, Ferrari vs. Lamborghinis a classic conversation that has and will continue to be held among car enthusiasts. Year after year as both Ferrari and Lamborghini engineers continue to smash spec records and design aerodynamic gloriousness, chatter around the two remains constant. I took a look at the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and Lamborghini Aventador S to create my own opinion of the two V12 models from their aesthetics to their driving performance.
1. BODY AESTHETIC
FERRARI F12 BERLINETTA
Iconically curvy around all the right edges, the F12 is quintessentially Ferrari. Differing from its predecessor the Ferrari 599, the F12 is sleeker with a more prominent coupe resemblance. Designed with stylistic purpose, the contour along the doors allow air to channel up through the front wheels and flow along the sides of the doors for amazing aero functionality.

Sleek, angular, and low to the ground are all characteristics that give the Aventador S a dangerous look. It is the modern day supercar poster, and rightfully so. The transparent engine bonnet allows for an unobstructed view of the V12 engine and it goes without saying that both doors open up in scissor fashion. The lines are razor sharp and its proportions are wide, especially when it comes to its air intakes. Its distinctive look demands it cannot be any other supercar but a Lamborghini.
2. EXHAUST SOUND

While the F12’s body aesthetic is predictable, the exhaust note really gives the prancing horse’s V12 engine a sweet note. However, it was perfectly described to me as listening to your favorite song but not being able to hear it as loudly as you would like to, especially when you have the Aventador revving next to you.

The Aventador S exhaust pays its respects to the Bull God every time it is revved. I immediately knew the sound would be intoxicating after simply igniting the engine. The V12’s throaty howl overcomes you as you gear up and can be heard before it is actually seen. It is quite dramatic.
3. INTERIOR DESIGN

Just as supple as it looks from the outside, the inside is too. Getting in and out is simpler and won’t leave you dreading leg day as the Aventador certainly will. The push to start button in addition to inserting the key into the ignition is a bit unnecessary, as for me it is an either or option, but the F12 makes up for it in having a more spacious cargo area and a comfortable experience behind the wheel.
LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR S
The Aventador S interior is definitely on the more luxurious side in comparison to other Lambo models. Lamborghini’s craftsmanship shines through the design of the broad center tunnel and dashboard. From the red switch cover that encloses the start button to the different dash display settings, the interior’s inspiration resembles that of a modern airplane. However, sitting in a supercar so low is an event in itself and requires a theatrical maneuver of sorts.
4. BRAND

While Ferrari’s exclusivity is an attractive quality to many, their exclusivity process is a bit ridiculous. To entertain the idea of being able to drive the Ferrari of your dreams would be a mistake as it might take you several years to even reach the newest model you yearn for.
LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR S
If I happened to win the lottery and wanted to fulfill one of my wildest supercar fantasies, I could invest in a Lamborghini any day, any model, any time. There is no need to work my way up a ladder of politics to finally drive the supercar of my dreams. Afterall, driving an Aventador S is all about the instant gratification of flooring it and going 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds. Why would I want a process to delay the instant satisfaction I am looking for?
5. DRIVING PERFORMANCE
FERRARI F12 BERLINETTA
While the dual shift transmission allows for a smoother gear transition, the F12 is so practical that it could be a daily driver. With a beastly V12 engine pushing out 731hp and a thrilling rear-wheel drive system, I expected more of a challenge and was met with a touring car experience. I will admit, this supercar is an ideal choice to hit the streets and draw attention from more than just a few supercar enthusiasts.
LAMBORGHINI AVENTADOR S
If you see an Aventador trudging along in city traffic, it is missing out. Just alone with its wide stance, it needs space to perform. A naturally aspirated V12 pulsing with 730hp and a newly added all-wheel drive deserves to push its own boundaries. Driving in Sport or Corsa is not for the faint of heart, especially if you are sensitive to the single-clutch transmission pushing you back into your seat, but then again the sensation of handling a machine so raw is what makes the Aventador S so thrilling.
It is obvious that a conversation held over which of the two rivals is best usually ends with one’s personal preference. There are so many factors that differentiate the Ferrari F12 from the Lamborghini Aventador S, and vice versa, but there are also similar factors between the two that allow for an even comparison, like how many seconds it takes to go from 0 to 60 seconds. Speaking from this experience, I favor the Lamborghini Aventador S. And yes, while it is so impractical to drive, it is that exact reason that keeps me coming back for more. Its thrilling speed and exhaust screams complement each other and bring to life a menacing bull.
